A
family business and tradition dating back four generations, which started
in Denmark by Niels Rasmussen in 1926. Niels was a sculptor and master
craftsman in garden ornament and decorative plaster of Paris as well as
stone and woodcarving.
Continued by
his son Hans who started as an apprentice with his father at the age of
fourteen, eventually becoming a partner taking over the business when
his father died in 1952.
The recession
in Denmark in the 1950's made for hardships for Hans and many of his contemporaries.
He and his wife Eva and four sons decided on a move to Canada. With a
new life they arrived in Edmonton in 1958. Here Hans eventually settled
into a career as a sculptor and pattern maker for a bronze casting foundry.
Niels Rasmussen,
the third generation, and his son Demian Rasmussen are currently continuing
the family tradition of quality garden sculpture, finely crafted and cast
in white cement.
